CHRISTOPHER DANIELS SHOCKS LOSSIE IN MORAY WITH SEXUAL MISCONDUCT AND INDECENT IMAGES

In a series of disturbing incidents that have rocked the community of Lossiemouth in Moray, Christopher Daniels, a former teacher at Lossiemouth High School, has been at the center of serious allegations involving inappropriate sexual conduct and possession of indecent images of children.

Back in July 2011, Daniels was involved in an incident during which he performed a sexual act in front of a schoolboy, an act that has since led to his removal from the General Teaching Council Scotland’s (GTCS) Register of Teachers. At the time, Daniels was employed as an Information Technology (IT) instructor at Lossiemouth High School, a position he held with responsibility for educating young students in the Moray region.

The gravity of his misconduct was further compounded by the discovery that Daniels possessed indecent photographs of children at his residence on Church Court, located on Court Street in Lossiemouth. This revelation came to light during police investigations, which culminated in Daniels being sentenced to a two-year community payback order (CPO). Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender, a legal requirement that mandates regular reporting and monitoring.

Despite being ordered to sign onto the sex offenders register, Daniels voluntarily removed himself from the list. However, he still retains the right to appeal this decision within a 21-day window, a procedural safeguard that allows individuals to contest their removal from the register.

It is noteworthy that the General Teaching Council Scotland oversees approximately 78,500 registered teachers, and since 2005, only 97 educators have been removed from the register, highlighting the rarity and severity of such disciplinary actions.

In a separate but related incident in October 2012, Daniels was again in the spotlight for inappropriate behavior involving a minor. This time, he was found to have exposed himself to a 15-year-old over a webcam, an act that took place during a video call from his home in Lossiemouth. The court heard that Daniels had admitted to intentionally causing the teenager to view a sexual image by performing a sex act during this online interaction on July 2 of the previous year.

Furthermore, Daniels confessed to possessing indecent images of children, with the material dating from December 31, 2011, to January 10 of the following year. The court deferred sentencing to allow for comprehensive reports, including a psychiatric assessment, to be prepared. During this period, Daniels was placed on the sex offenders’ register and was ordered to undergo supervision for two years, including participation in a sex offenders’ rehabilitation program.

The case was brought to light after the victim’s mother discovered a series of messages exchanged between her son and Daniels on their family computer, prompting her to contact police. Grampian Police subsequently searched Daniels’ residence in Lossiemouth in January of this year.

Legal representatives, including solicitor Stephen Carty, emphasized that Daniels had already faced significant consequences, noting that his career as a teacher had ended as a result of these events. Carty stated, “This has had quite an impact on him.”

Sheriff Susan Raeburn, presiding over the case, confirmed that Daniels would be subject to supervision for two years and required to attend a specialized sex offenders’ program. She also clarified that Daniels would remain on the sex offenders’ register for the same period.

In response to the allegations, Moray Council issued a statement confirming that Daniels had left his teaching position at Lossiemouth High School before the case was concluded. The council further stated, “He is no longer employed by the council,” and indicated that Daniels is currently barred from working in any educational setting, pending further disciplinary action by the General Teaching Council Scotland.
