CHRISTOPHER COLLINS SENTENCED FOR RAPE IN AIRDRIE
In December 2013, a disturbing case unfolded in Airdrie involving Christopher Collins, a 31-year-old man who was convicted of raping a 15-year-old girl. The incident took place in June of the previous year, when Collins lured the young girl to his parents' residence in Airdrie while they were away on holiday.According to court records, Collins provided the girl with vodka and beer, effectively intoxicating her before committing the assault. The girl’s mother became alarmed when she returned home that evening in a distressed state, dressed in men's clothing, which prompted her to contact the police.
The sequence of events began when Collins had driven the girl and her friends home. He then claimed to have needed to stop at his parents' house in North Lanarkshire to retrieve an item. However, once there, he continued to serve alcohol to the teenager, who was already under the influence. Subsequently, Collins engaged in sexual activity with her, despite her inability to give clear consent due to intoxication.
The girl’s mother, concerned about her daughter's condition, called Collins, who insisted he was simply looking after her after she had become drunk. She demanded that Collins bring her daughter home, noting that the girl had appeared fine earlier that evening.
When the girl finally arrived home, she was in a highly distressed state and was wearing men's clothing, which heightened her mother’s concern. This prompted her to contact law enforcement authorities.
Following police inquiries, forensic tests confirmed that Collins had indeed engaged in sexual intercourse with the girl that night. During the subsequent court proceedings at the High Court in Glasgow, Collins admitted to the charges.
As a result of his conviction, Collins was sentenced to serve five years and three months in prison. Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders' register, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to protect the community from further harm.
