CHRISTOPHER BIRD SENTENCED IN BANGOR FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AND DRUG OFFENSES
In June 2017, a man from Bangor was handed a significant prison sentence after admitting to multiple serious crimes involving a young schoolgirl. Christopher Charles Bird, aged 56, was brought before Caernarfon Crown Court where he faced justice for his actions. The court proceedings revealed that Bird had committed three counts of sexual assault against the victim, along with a related drug offense, with all incidents occurring between the years 2012 and 2015.During the hearing, it was disclosed that the victim had to undergo extensive counseling sessions as a direct consequence of Bird’s heinous conduct. The emotional and psychological toll on the young girl was emphasized, highlighting the severity of the crimes committed.
Judge Huw Rees addressed the court, describing the offences as extremely serious. He remarked, “These are very serious offences. The victim still suffers from sleep deprivation and mood swings as a result of your actions.” The judge’s comments underscored the lasting impact of Bird’s crimes on the victim’s mental health.
At the time of sentencing, Bird’s address was listed as the Hergest mental health unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd. He appeared in court wearing jeans and a blue jumper, maintaining a stoic expression and showing no visible emotion as the sentence was announced.
As part of his punishment, Bird was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison. Additionally, he will be subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, which aims to restrict his activities and monitor his behavior to prevent further offenses. The court’s decision reflects the gravity of the crimes and the ongoing concern for public safety in Bangor.
