CHRISTIAN WILSON FROM WILLERBY SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN HULL

In December 2017, Christian Wilson, a 21-year-old man from Willerby, was sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences involving young boys. The case revealed disturbing details about Wilson's actions during his teenage years, highlighting a pattern of grooming and abuse that has left a lasting impact on his victims.

Wilson, who was bullied during his adolescence, reportedly sought solace in the company of much younger children. His inappropriate relationships with these boys culminated when, at the age of 17, he befriended a young boy and subsequently raped him. The court heard that Wilson also engaged in grooming another young boy, which involved sexual assault and manipulative behaviour aimed at establishing a false sense of trust.

Prosecutor Megan Rhys provided details to Hull Crown Court, emphasizing that the offences took place when Wilson was 17 years old. Despite his denial of all charges, the case proceeded to trial, during which the victims' emotional testimonies played a crucial role. One of the victims, now a young teenager, delivered a heartfelt statement expressing his fears that Wilson's actions might happen to others and sharing concerns about the emotional toll on his family. The court was told that Wilson's grooming tactics included buying the victims McDonald's meals and sweets, as well as hugging and kissing them on the forehead.

Further disturbing details emerged during the trial, with evidence indicating that Wilson stroked one of the boys' legs and did not cease his inappropriate behaviour even when the boy attempted to push his hand away. The court found Wilson guilty of eight offences, including the rape of a child under 13 and sexual assault on a child under 13. The severity of these crimes underscored the need for a strong judicial response.

In addition to the criminal acts, police investigations uncovered 20 indecent images of children stored on Wilson's iPad at the time of his arrest in May of the previous year. This discovery added to the gravity of his offences and highlighted the extent of his misconduct.

During sentencing, Recorder Richard Woolfall expressed concern that Wilson appeared to remain in denial about the seriousness of his actions. The judge stated, “It concerns me you are still in denial about the offences. These offences are so serious only an immediate custodial sentence is justified.” Wilson was therefore sentenced to five years in prison, with the judge indicating that he would serve half of this term before being eligible for release on licence, subject to parole conditions and ongoing supervision.
