CHRISTIAN LORD FROM CARLISLE SENTENCED FOR ILLEGAL AMMUNITION AND DRUGS
In July 2018, a significant development occurred in the case of Christian Edward Lord, a known resident of Carlisle, who has a long and troubling criminal history.Lord, aged 43, was already serving time for drug-related offenses when new evidence surfaced that led to an extension of his prison sentence.
Lord's criminal activities came under scrutiny after police executed searches at his residence on Welsh Road.
During these searches, authorities uncovered substantial quantities of heroin, along with drug paraphernalia and a considerable amount of cash, indicating ongoing drug dealing operations.
These discoveries prompted a sentencing in February, where Lord pleaded guilty to two separate counts of heroin trafficking.
The court sentenced him to 64 months in prison for these offenses.
However, the investigation did not end there.
In January, law enforcement officials returned to Lord's home for further searches, which revealed an alarming and potentially dangerous find: fifty-nine .22 long rifle caliber unfired cartridges filled with hollow-point bullets.
These bullets are designed to expand upon impact, causing greater damage and increasing their lethality.
The ammunition was stored in a locked outdoor cupboard, and notably, no firearm was found at the scene.
Prosecutor Beccy McGregor explained that the presence of such ammunition was particularly concerning due to its lethal potential.
The discovery prompted additional legal proceedings, as Lord admitted to possessing the ammunition without holding a valid firearms certificate.
During police interviews, Lord claimed that he had found the bullets on an allotment the previous summer and had brought them home with the intention of firing them, despite knowing he lacked the proper licensing.
Further complicating Lord's case is his extensive and notorious criminal record.
In 1996, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison by a Nottingham judge for a series of serious crimes, including child rape, kidnap, indecent assault, and violence.
This background underscores the severity of his criminal history and the ongoing concerns about his activities.
In light of these findings, Carlisle Crown Court sentenced Lord to an additional eight months in prison, to run consecutively with his existing sentence.
The court also ordered that the ammunition be forfeited and destroyed, emphasizing the danger such lethal weaponry poses to public safety.
Recorder Mark Ainsworth highlighted the public's justified concern over the presence of illegal ammunition on the streets, even if Lord was not in a position to discharge it.
The judge stressed that only a custodial sentence could adequately address the gravity of the situation, reflecting the serious nature of possessing such dangerous items without proper authorization.
