CHARLOTTE DOOTSON'S BRUTAL MURDER IN MILES PLATTING: FAMILY DEMANDS JUSTICE FOR VULNERABLE VICTIM
Nearly four years after the tragic and brutal death of Mohammed Amin Mukhtar, his family continues to seek answers and justice for his senseless murder. Mohammed, a man described by those who knew him as quiet, kind, and harmless, was tragically killed at his residence in Miles Platting on August 30, 2021. The perpetrator, his then 25-year-old girlfriend Charlotte Dootson, was responsible for his death in a chilling act of violence that shocked the local community and drew significant media attention.According to court reports, Dootson meticulously restrained Mohammed by binding his hands, feet, and neck with extension cords. She kept him immobilized for over two hours, during which she was engaged in a disturbing activity—sexting with another man she had met online. The details of her actions reveal a calculated and sadistic intent, culminating in her strangling Mohammed to death. The court heard that Dootson used extension cords as her weapon of choice, and her actions were premeditated, as she had been involved in previous violent incidents against him.
In May 2022, Dootson pleaded guilty to the murder of Mohammed Mukhtar and was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 22 and a half years. The court was told that Mohammed had endured domestic abuse at her hands for several years, with the Crown Court describing him as a “harmless” and “vulnerable” individual. The abuse was not isolated; police records indicate that authorities received a total of 12 calls related to violence against Mohammed between May 2018 and July of the previous year. Dootson was arrested three times in connection with these incidents and was remanded in custody for a month following one of the allegations.
Prosecutors revealed that Dootson had used weapons, including knives, on multiple occasions to attack Mohammed. The frequency and severity of these attacks increased over time, highlighting a pattern of escalating violence. At the time of the murder, Dootson, who had a history of drug addiction and was diagnosed with a personality disorder, was under investigation for a separate incident involving strangulation with a cable extension cord. This background underscores the complex and troubling history of their relationship.
Recently, at a second pre-inquest review held at Manchester Coroner's Court, it was announced that an inquest would be conducted to examine the involvement of various state agencies in Mohammed and Dootson’s relationship. The inquiry aims to determine whether Mohammed’s death could have been prevented and to scrutinize the actions of authorities who may have been involved or aware of the ongoing abuse.
During the hearing, Sunyana Sharma, representing Mohammed’s family, pointed out two alleged incidents of violence prior to his death. She detailed that in May 2018, following a verbal argument, Dootson punched Mohammed. Additionally, in March 2019, police officers found her physically assaulting him, punching and kicking him in the head and body. These incidents raise questions about the adequacy of intervention and whether more could have been done to protect Mohammed from further harm. The case continues to evoke concern about domestic abuse and the importance of timely intervention to prevent tragedies like this from occurring again.
