STIRLING WOMAN CHANTELLE CATERALL ENDANGERS CHILD WITH CANNABIS AND PARAPHERNALIA
In a disturbing incident that unfolded in Stirling, a woman named Chantelle Caterall was found to have committed serious neglect involving a young child in her care. The events came to light on February 7 of the previous year, when authorities responded to an anonymous tip-off reporting her failure to answer her phone or door at her residence.Upon arrival, police officers entered the property and immediately noted a concerning state of neglect. Catterall was observed to appear drowsy and disoriented, and the environment inside the home was described as unclean and neglected. The officers detected an overwhelming smell of urine permeating the bedroom, where they found the child's pyjamas wet and stained with excrement. The child's hygiene was clearly compromised, as Catterall was seen changing the child's nappy without the use of wipes or any cream, and she appeared to stumble and act dismissively towards the young child, indicating a lack of proper care.
Further inspection revealed the presence of cannabis and related paraphernalia placed on the edge of the bed within easy reach of the child. This discovery raised serious concerns about the safety and well-being of the young individual, as the environment was not only neglectful but also potentially hazardous due to the proximity of illegal substances.
During police questioning, Catterall admitted to neglecting the child, acknowledging her failure to provide adequate care. Her actions were deemed to be both neglectful and endangering the child's welfare, prompting legal proceedings. The case was brought before Sheriff Keith O’Mahoney, who imposed an 18-month supervision order on Catterall. The court warned that any breach of this supervision could lead to imprisonment. In court, it was revealed that Catterall was struggling to cope with her circumstances at the time and expressed remorse for her actions, recognizing the gravity of her neglect and the potential harm caused to the child.
