RUSHDEN CHILD RAPIST CARL WRIGHT SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS FOR SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING YOUNG GIRLS

In a case that has shocked the community of Rushden, Carl Wright, aged 23, has been sentenced to a significant prison term after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offences involving young girls. The conviction stems from a series of disturbing incidents that took place over a span of several years, specifically between 2002 and 2005, when Wright was aged between 15 and 17.

According to court records, Wright was convicted on three counts: raping an 11-year-old girl, engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with her when she was only 10 years old, and indecently assaulting another 11-year-old girl. The court heard detailed testimonies from the victims, which played a crucial role in securing the conviction. Wright admitted to sexually touching the younger girl intermittently over a period of four to six weeks but denied any further sexual activity with her and also denied the allegations of indecent assault against the other girl.

During the sentencing hearing at Northampton Crown Court, Recorder Adrian Redgrave QC addressed Wright directly. He stated, “You’ve been convicted, after two girls had to give evidence about it, of indecent assault, unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and rape. As far as the offence against the indecent assault victim is concerned, I regard that as relatively minor. As far as the offences against the other victim are concerned, I regard them as serious in the extreme.”

He further emphasized the gravity of the crimes, noting, “She was a child. There’s no question of her giving any form of valid consent. She didn’t resist but I do not accept this case on the basis she was giving informed consent. You were taking advantage of her age and the relationship growing between you.”

Wright was sentenced to seven years in prison for the rape and sexual activity offences. Additionally, he received a six-month sentence for the indecent assault, which was to run concurrently with the longer term. The court also informed Wright that he would be eligible for release on licence after serving half of his sentence, a standard procedure for such serious offences.

Community members and advocates for victims have expressed their relief that justice has been served in this troubling case, which has brought to light the dangers faced by vulnerable children in the Rushden area. The case underscores the importance of vigilance and the need for continued efforts to protect minors from exploitation and abuse.
