HULL SEX OFFENDER CARL WILLIAMSON JAILED FOR EIGHTH FAILURE TO SIGN REGISTER
In a case that highlights ongoing concerns about compliance with sex offender registration laws, Carl Lee Williamson, a 26-year-old resident of Hull, has been sentenced to six months in prison after repeatedly failing to adhere to the legal requirements of the sex offenders' register.Williamson’s latest breaches mark the eighth time he has neglected to fulfill his obligations under the law.
His original conviction for indecently exposing himself occurred in 2008, which resulted in a court order mandating that he sign the register for a period of seven years.
This order also stipulated that he must inform police of any change of address within three days and notify authorities if he spends more than 12 hours in a residence with someone under the age of 18.
Despite these clear legal obligations, Williamson failed to comply, leading to his appearance at Hull Crown Court where he admitted to the latest two breaches.
Prosecutor James Byatt detailed that on July 3, Williamson told police he was of no fixed address.
However, just five days later, Williamson’s girlfriend confirmed that he had been staying at her house several times a month.
The woman’s 16-year-old son was also present at the residence on at least one occasion during Williamson’s stays.
Judge Michael Mettyear, the Honorary Recorder of Hull and the East Riding, expressed his frustration with Williamson’s repeated failures to comply.
He stated, “You have been absolutely hopeless at complying.
You just keep making mistake after mistake.” The judge emphasized that such persistent breaches could only be adequately addressed through custodial sentences, underscoring the seriousness with which the court views violations of sex offender registration laws.
The court’s decision reflects the importance of strict adherence to these legal requirements to protect the community and ensure accountability.
