NOTTINGHAM PREDATOR CARL POWELL GETS LIFE FOR BRUTAL MURDERS AND ASSAULTS
Carl Powell, a 24-year-old man, was found guilty of several severe crimes in Nottingham, including the murder of Caroline Coyne and a sexual assault on another woman.Powell was characterized as someone with obsessive and predatory sexual behavior who frequently targeted women in the vicinity.
Evidence presented in court indicated that Powell murdered Ms Coyne during a sexually motivated attack on a Nottingham street, after she signaled for help by stopping a police vehicle.
CCTV footage captured Ms Coyne fleeing from Powell and attempting to flag down a bus, before she was discovered dead with head trauma and signs of strangulation.
During the trial, Powell acknowledged to police that he was visible in the CCTV footage but initially denied being responsible for Ms Coyne’s death.
Prosecutors emphasized that Powell had a pattern of wandering in search of women, and the jury convicted him of murder, sexual assault, and related offenses.
He was sentenced by the judge to life imprisonment with at least 20 years before parole consideration.
A month following Ms Coyne’s death, Powell assaulted another woman by grabbing her around the neck and forcing her into college grounds, though she managed to avoid more serious harm.
The court described the attack on Ms Coyne—who was 28 and worked as a care worker—as particularly savage, highlighting the brutality of the incident.
The case led to an internal police review, which found no misconduct.
Powell's actions were depicted as cold and predatory, significantly affecting the local community.
