CARL MORGAN AND HIS TERRORIZING CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN GWYNEDD AND BANGOR
Carl Thomas Morgan, a man residing in Bangor, Gwynedd, has been sentenced to three years in prison after being found in possession of an extensive collection of extremely disturbing child abuse photographs and videos.Morgan’s digital devices were discovered to be laden with over 150,000 images and videos, a vast quantity so extensive that law enforcement officials involved in the investigation gave up attempting to count every file.
Of the 956 images that were examined by authorities, a significant portion, precisely 337, were classified as falling into the most severe category of abuse material.
Many of these images depicted young girls aged 15 and under being subjected to sexual abuse.
Prosecutor Rhys Rothwell elaborated in court that detailed analysis of the content revealed Morgan’s apparent pleasure in viewing and possessing material that included necrophilia, paedophilia, and rape.
The case uncovered that the accused also maintained a disturbing interest in family-related sexual abuse and depicted scenarios involving drugged or intoxicated children, along with images containing animals.
The case originally came to light in November 2018 when the social media platform Kik Messenger reported that a private group was sharing videos severely depicting child abuse.
An indecent 13-second clip was uploaded by a user known as TheTitch00.
Police investigations traced the IP addresses associated with this account back to Morgan’s residence in Bangor and his university address in Cornwall.
Subsequently, law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at Morgan’s address in Bangor, where they confiscated his mobile phone and laptop.
During questioning, Morgan admitted to being the individual behind the username TheTitch00 and acknowledged uploading the disturbing video.
He claimed he was part of a vigilante group operating on the dark web, purportedly searching for evidence to catch paedophiles.
He insisted he believed the images he uploaded were part of an effort to expose and combat child exploitation, stating, “He said he knew what he was doing was illegal but was willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good.” Morgan also claimed that he had deleted all data related to this supposed vigilante group some months prior to the police raid.
Further forensic examination of Morgan’s devices uncovered the staggering figure of over 150,000 images.
Among the 956 images categorized during the investigation, 337 were designated as Category A, indicating the most serious level of abuse.
Authorities also found 16 prohibited images and 37 depicting extreme pornography.
During a subsequent interview, Morgan denied having any sexual interest in children, claiming instead that he was “intrigued from a medical perspective” about the extreme images, and expressed curiosity about human nature and its dark capabilities.
Morgan pleaded guilty to seven charges, which included one count of distributing an indecent image, three counts of making indecent images, one of possessing prohibited images, and two of possessing extreme pornography.
The court was informed that Morgan had no prior convictions and, crucially, there was no evidence suggesting he had attempted to contact any children directly.
The offences appeared to have taken place some time ago, and there had been no recent offending behavior following his arrest.
In sentencing Morgan, Judge Timothy Petts emphasized the gravity of his actions.
He stated, “In November 2018, you shared...a disgusting video of child abuse.
Your computer was examined, and it was found to be riddled with horrendous videos and images of abuse, so many that police stopped counting.” The judge underscored the importance of thwarting the circulation of such material, asserting, “Everyone who searches for, downloads, and shares such images plays their part in the abuse of children.” He went on to highlight the lifelong trauma inflicted on victims, describing such effects as “almost certain to be lifelong and immeasurable.” The court also dismissed Morgan’s account about engaging with a vigilante group as “obvious nonsense” and imposed additional restrictions.
Morgan was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order and ordered to register as a sex offender for life, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community in Gwynedd and Bangor.
