BLYTH PAEDOPHILE CARL DOURAS CAUGHT WITH VILE CHILD AND ANIMAL PORNOGRAPHY COLLECTION

Carl Douras, a 56-year-old resident of Blyth, was recently captured outside the Magistrates' Court, appearing visibly sheepish as he was photographed by a bystander. His arrest and subsequent discovery have sent shockwaves through the local community, revealing a disturbing pattern of criminal behavior spanning over a decade.

Over a period of twelve years, Douras engaged in the illegal activity of downloading and collecting a vast array of illicit images. His collection, stored on a personal hard drive, consisted of approximately 5,200 images, including highly disturbing material involving children and extreme animal pornography. Among these, police found 2,092 images classified as Category A, which are considered the most severe and involve penetrative sexual acts.

The investigation was initiated after law enforcement agencies received a tip-off from a neighboring police force, prompting a search of Douras's residence on Holystone Avenue in Blyth, Northumberland. During the search, officers uncovered the hard drive containing the illicit material. Douras was promptly arrested and, during police interviews, he admitted to downloading a total of 5,207 images. His confession confirmed the extent of his illegal activities, which spanned from 2012 to 2024.

At the South East Northumberland Magistrates' Court, prosecutors outlined the gravity of the case. Brian Payne, representing the Crown, stated that the nature of the images, especially the Category A material, was extremely serious. He emphasized that the majority of the content was beyond the sentencing powers of the magistrates, urging that Douras be committed to Newcastle Crown Court for a more appropriate sentencing process.

Defense lawyer Stewart Hay concurred with this recommendation, acknowledging that Douras should face sentencing at the higher court. Mr. Hay also noted that Douras is currently seeking counseling to address his behavior. Despite the serious charges, Douras was released on unconditional bail but is required to register as a sex offender and will appear again at Newcastle Crown Court on July 17.
