INVERNESS POLICE OFFICER CAMERON ROSS FACES SERIOUS CHARGES IN EDINBURGH TRIAL

Cameron Ross, a former police officer from Inverness, is set to stand trial in December on multiple serious criminal charges that date back nearly a decade. The allegations involve the alleged sexual assaults of two women in the Western Isles, with the incidents reportedly occurring around ten years ago. Ross, who previously served at Burnett Road police station and was known for his role as a dog handler in the Western Isles, has been suspended from duty amid these allegations.

According to court documents, Ross faces a total of five charges linked to three different victims. The accusations include the assault and rape of two women at separate addresses in Stornoway. One of these alleged assaults is said to have taken place between August and October 2012, while the other occurred in June 2014. These serious allegations have surfaced after Ross was reported to have been working within police services, and they also include claims of threatening and abusive behavior directed at a partner.

The detailed charges reveal a pattern of violent and threatening conduct. It is alleged that Ross threatened to kill the woman, brandished a knife during an incident, and incited her to stab him. Further accusations include an attempt to throw her down stairs while she was pregnant, as well as efforts to influence police proceedings by intimidating witnesses and threatening the careers of fellow officers. These disturbing allegations paint a picture of a man accused of extreme violence and intimidation.

The arrest of Cameron Ross was first publicly disclosed earlier this year by the Press and Journal (P&J). The upcoming trial is scheduled to last six days, beginning on December 3, in Edinburgh’s High Court. Ross has denied all the charges brought against him. His defense team has argued that at least one of the rape allegations was consensual, raising a legal argument based on consent.

Originally from Nairn, Ross has a background working with a specially trained police dog and has a history of service in the Western Isles. A preliminary court hearing is scheduled for May 9, prior to the main trial. This case is part of a broader pattern of legal proceedings involving police officers accused of serious criminal conduct, highlighting ongoing concerns about accountability within law enforcement agencies.
