HULL MAN JAILED FOR SHATTERING PUB WINDOW AND BLINDING GIRLFRIEND
A mother of two young children has been left blind in one eye and faces potential loss of sight in her other eye after her partner, Cameron Farmer, broke a pub window which caused her to be showered with glass. The 21-year-old from Hull’s Bransholme area admitted to causing both the injuries and criminal damage on July 30, just prior to his scheduled trial.
According to court accounts, Farmer was upset because she was not accompanying him on a night out, and his anger intensified until he punched and broke a window while she was present in a city centre pub.
Prosecutor Michael Greenhalgh noted that Farmer and the woman had previously been in a relationship, and he was known for having a temper with multiple previous episodes.
On the night of the incident, she was at the Hull Cheese pub in Paragon Street with her brother, where Farmer caused alarm by shouting loudly into his phone.
When she saw Farmer passing, she knocked on the window to get his attention and indicated she would be outside soon.
Farmer, with a history of trouble at the same venue, became jealous and resentful, suspecting she was seeking another man.
In his rage, he punched the window so forcefully that it shattered, causing serious injuries including a deep cut to her eyelid and damage to her eyeball and retina, with glass entering her eye.
He ran away but was captured by police, who found cuts on his left arm.
He claimed the incident was accidental, but the woman’s injuries were described as 'catastrophic' and 'horrific,' resulting in permanent facial scars, blindness in her left eye, and possible threats to her other eye.
Despite multiple surgeries, she remained without success in restoring her sight and now faces a future of probable blindness in that eye, coupled with ongoing headaches and difficulty in daily activities.
Her court statement conveyed her distress and worry about her future and her children's wellbeing.
Farmer’s legal team stated he realized he hit the window hard enough to cause it to break and did not intend to hurt her.
Judge Alexander Menary remarked that the incident lasted only seconds, with Farmer driven into a state of paranoia and jealousy.
The judge emphasized the gravity of the injuries and their irreversible impact, clarifying that there was no malicious intent but that the act was profoundly destructive.
Farmer was sentenced to three years in prison and was given a ten-year restraining order against the victim.
