CAMERON DEAZLE FROM LEICESTER SENTENCED FOR CRUELTY TO STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIERS

In a disturbing case of animal neglect, Cameron Deazle, also known as Cameron Watson-Deazle, a resident of Neston Gardens in Leicester, was found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to two Staffordshire bull terriers. The incident, which took place between May 9 and June 9, 2017, involved the deliberate neglect of the animals' basic needs, particularly their nutrition.

Deazle’s actions came under scrutiny after he contacted the Leicester city council to report two stray dogs, leading to a visit from a council dog warden. Upon arrival at his property, the dog warden discovered a tragic scene: one of the dogs, a white and brindle Staffordshire bull terrier, had recently died at the premises, while the other, a dark brindle Staffordshire bull terrier, was found to be severely emaciated and on the brink of death. Despite initially denying ownership of the dogs, Deazle’s claims were contradicted by the evidence found at his property.

James Lucas, the RSPCA chief inspector for Leicester, described the severity of the neglect: “Sadly, as a result of these two dogs being left at the property for a long period with little or no food, one of the dogs sadly died and it was a close call for the other. They were both very skinny and this would have caused both dogs extreme suffering.”

The surviving dog, who has since been named Bobby, is currently under the care of the RSPCA, where he is receiving treatment and nourishment to recover from the ordeal. Animal welfare officials expressed hope that Bobby will eventually be adopted into a caring and loving home, once he is fully rehabilitated.

In court, Deazle was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison for the cruelty charges. Additionally, he received an eight-week sentence for breaching a conditional discharge, with the total of 24 weeks suspended for 18 months. The court also ordered him to pay £215 in costs and charges. Furthermore, Deazle was banned from keeping dogs for a period of five years, although this ban expired in February 2023.

This case highlights the ongoing issues of animal cruelty and neglect in Leicester, prompting calls for stricter enforcement and awareness to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
