CAMERON BLAKELEY SENTENCED IN TONBRIDGE FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND VIOLENCE

Cameron Blakeley, a 29-year-old man from Tonbridge, has been handed a prison sentence of two years and one month following his conviction for a series of abusive behaviors directed at his partner over nearly two years. The disturbing pattern of abuse began shortly after their relationship commenced in July 2022, and it included a range of degrading and violent acts that left lasting scars on the victim.

Throughout their relationship, Blakeley engaged in psychological torment by belittling his partner publicly, often doing so in front of her friends and family members. His controlling tendencies manifested in relentless demands to know her whereabouts at all times, coupled with frequent insults aimed at her appearance, which served to undermine her self-esteem and sense of security. These actions created an environment of constant fear and emotional distress for the victim.

In addition to emotional abuse, Blakeley's violent conduct escalated to physical acts. Notably, he was involved in damaging a child's cot using a craft knife, an incident that underscores the severity of his violent tendencies. Many of these episodes occurred while he was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine, which appeared to exacerbate his aggressive behavior.

One of the most serious incidents took place on August 3rd of the previous year. During this episode, Blakeley spat in the victim’s face, headbutted her, and pulled her hair in a brutal assault. He also issued a threatening warning, saying, 'if you call the police, watch what will happen,' which demonstrated his intent to intimidate and control her further. Following this assault, Blakeley was arrested two days later, marking a significant step in the legal proceedings against him.

At Maidstone Crown Court, Blakeley pleaded guilty to charges of controlling or coercive behavior and criminal damage. A further charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm was ordered to lie on file, meaning it was not pursued further but remained part of the case record. On April 11th, the court sentenced him to a prison term of two years and one month. Upon his release, Blakeley will be subject to a five-year restraining order, designed to prevent any contact with the victim and to protect her from further harm.

Detective Constable Jennifer Mitchell commented on the case, emphasizing the profound and lasting impact of Blakeley's actions on the victim’s mental health. She also urged victims of domestic abuse to seek support, reassuring them that they are not to blame for their circumstances. Mitchell reaffirmed the police’s commitment to assisting victims and ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions, highlighting the importance of community awareness and intervention in cases of domestic violence.
