CALVIN HODGSON'S SHOCKING RE-ARREST IN NEWPORT FOR REPEATED CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES
In a disturbing development, Calvin Hodgson, a 32-year-old resident of Newport, has been apprehended once again for possessing a significant number of indecent images of children. This arrest marks a troubling recurrence for Hodgson, who was previously convicted of similar offenses and subjected to court orders aimed at preventing further harm.
Back in August 2016, Hodgson received a suspended prison sentence after being found with over 6,000 indecent images stored on his computer.
As part of his sentence, he was also placed under a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which was intended to restrict his access to material and prevent any future offenses.
Despite these measures, authorities uncovered new evidence of his continued involvement in such illicit activities.
The latest search was carried out on February 5 at Hodgson’s residence on Clyffard Crescent in Newport.
When police officers executed a warrant, they inquired about the presence of indecent images.
Hodgson’s response was dismissive, claiming, “There’s none.
I’ve been here before,” indicating a possible awareness of previous investigations or suspicions.
During the search, law enforcement officials seized a memory card and a computer tower.
A forensic examination revealed a total of 1,662 indecent images, including 693 classified as the most serious Category A.
Prosecutors detailed that the majority of these Category A images—specifically 647 pictures and 46 videos—depicted young girls aged between five and 12.
The images were described by Judge Neil Bidder QC at Cardiff Crown Court as “very disturbing,” emphasizing the severity and disturbing nature of the material.
In addition to Category A, authorities found 571 images in Category B, comprising 565 pictures and six videos, and 398 images in Category C, including 396 pictures and two videos.
The investigation also uncovered a prohibited computer-generated image, further highlighting the extent of Hodgson’s illegal collection.
Hodgson admitted to three counts of possessing indecent images of children and one count of possessing a prohibited image.
He also acknowledged breaching the Sexual Harm Prevention Order previously imposed on him.
During court proceedings, Hodgson expressed remorse, stating that he felt “ashamed” of his actions and was “apologetic.” His legal representative explained that Hodgson “lives in virtual reality” and does not socialize much, which may have contributed to his behavior.
Judge Bidder described the images as “disgusting” and emphasized that they depict “real children being subjected to the most terrible abuse.” As a result, Hodgson was sentenced to 34 months in prison.
Furthermore, the court decided to make the Sexual Harm Prevention Order indefinite, extending the restrictions on Hodgson’s activities and access to such material indefinitely, in an effort to protect the public from further harm.
