CALLUM LATIMER FROM WARRINGTON CRIES IN COURT AFTER BEING CAUGHT WITH 1,700 CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IMAGES AND VIDEOS
In August 2023, a disturbing case unfolded at Liverpool Crown Court involving Callum Latimer, a 23-year-old resident of Warrington, who was found in possession of an extensive collection of child sexual abuse material. The authorities uncovered a staggering total of 1,700 illicit images and videos depicting children aged between three and ten being subjected to rape or torture.
This revelation came after a tip-off on November 30 of the previous year, which prompted a detailed investigation leading to Latimer's arrest.
During the police search of Latimer’s residence, officers seized his Samsung mobile phone, which contained 165 indecent images and videos.
Among these, 58 were classified as the most serious Category A images, indicating the most severe level of abuse.
Further examination revealed an additional 1,578 prohibited images of children, highlighting the extent of his illegal collection.
The chat logs stored on his device also exposed disturbing requests for indecent images of underage girls depicted in Japanese manga-style illustrations, suggesting a disturbing interest in underage victims beyond the visual material.
Prosecutor Christopher Hopkins detailed the nature of the images in court, emphasizing that they depicted young girls aged between three and ten years old.
Latimer, who resides on Keswick Crescent in Warrington, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including three counts of making indecent images of children, possessing indecent images, and possessing prohibited images.
His guilty plea was a clear acknowledgment of his involvement in the possession and distribution of these harmful materials.
Judge Andrew Menary presided over the case and addressed Latimer directly during sentencing.
He stated, “It’s plain that for a time you were active online soliciting or talking to others about these images and you acquired these images.
They involve the serious abuse of very young children, and it’s for that reason that people who possess these images and seek them out in this way are encouraging this evil trade.” The judge highlighted the gravity of the offense, emphasizing the serious harm inflicted upon the victims and the broader implications of such criminal behavior.
Despite the severity of the crimes, Judge Menary chose not to impose an immediate prison sentence.
Instead, he opted for a more rehabilitative approach, suggesting that Latimer could benefit from community support through the probation service.
The judge stated, “A more constructive option would be to give you support within the community from the probation service.” As part of his sentence, Latimer was ordered to serve a six-month prison term, which was suspended for 18 months.
Additionally, he was mandated to complete the Horizon programme for sex offenders and to undertake 150 hours of unpaid community service.
Furthermore, Latimer was placed on the sex offenders register and issued a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in effect for five years.
During the sentencing, Latimer was visibly emotional and cried in court, reflecting the gravity of his actions and the impact of the proceedings.
