CALLUM BOTELER GUILDFORD SEX OFFENDER JAILED FOR ATTEMPTED ASSAULT IN GUILDFORD
In a serious case that has raised concerns about public safety in Guildford, Callum Boteler, a 22-year-old man with no fixed address, has been convicted and sentenced to prison for his involvement in an attempted sexual assault that took place within the town. The incident, which occurred on the evening of January 12 last year, involved Boteler following a 20-year-old woman along Portsmouth Road, a well-known thoroughfare in Guildford.According to court records, the victim was walking along Portsmouth Road when she first noticed Boteler trailing behind her. She observed him for a moment before he disappeared from her sight. However, shortly thereafter, she encountered him again as she approached an alleyway. As she passed by, Boteler attempted to initiate a conversation, but she chose to ignore him and continued walking. Despite her efforts to move away, Boteler managed to catch up with her and made an aggressive move, attempting to grab her arm.
Realizing she was in danger, the woman screamed loudly for help. Her cries were heard by three police officers who happened to be patrolling nearby. The officers responded swiftly, running towards her and attempting to apprehend Boteler as he tried to escape the scene. The officers successfully detained him at the location.
Subsequent investigations, including CCTV footage, revealed that Boteler had been following multiple women earlier that evening in Guildford town centre. This pattern of behavior underscored the dangerous nature of his actions and his history of similar offenses.
At Guildford Crown Court on Wednesday, January 6, Boteler pleaded guilty to attempted sexual assault. He was sentenced to three years and ten months in prison, with a court order requiring him to serve at least two-thirds of his sentence behind bars. The court's decision reflects the severity of his conduct and the threat he posed to the community.
Surrey Police confirmed that Boteler had a prior conviction for similar offenses in Sussex. At the time of the attempted assault, he was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which was intended to restrict his behavior and prevent further offenses. His breach of this order highlights ongoing concerns about his risk to public safety and the importance of strict legal measures to protect potential victims.
