CALLUM ABBOTT AND SHOCKING SEX OFFENCE IN POWYS
A 21-year-old man named Callum Abbott engaged in a disturbing sexual incident involving a 14-year-old girl in Warrington town centre. The offence was committed in March 2020, when Abbott, then aged 21, was found to have kissed and cuddled the young girl before proceeding to book a hotel room for both of them.
The actions were deemed highly inappropriate and illegal, as they involved an adult engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with a minor.
Abbott’s case came before Warrington Magistrates’ Court on a recent Thursday, where he appeared to face the charges.
He had pleaded guilty to being an offender aged 18 or over engaging in sexual activity with a girl under 16, which is a serious offence under UK law.
During the hearing, prosecutor Amanda York detailed the circumstances of the incident.
She explained that the offence occurred in the town centre and that the young victim has since suffered from panic attacks following what she experienced.
In his defense, Mr.
Derbyshire highlighted Abbott’s ongoing mental health struggles.
He described his client as suffering from complex mental health issues and having a history of substance abuse.
The defense argued that imprisoning Abbott could be harmful to his mental well-being, emphasizing that he is already dealing with significant personal challenges.
Mr.
Derbyshire also pointed out that Abbott, who resides in Newtown, Wales, is aware of the gravity of his actions and has taken steps toward addressing his offending behavior.
As part of his sentence, Abbott was given a two-year community order.
This order requires him to complete up to 35 days of rehabilitation activity, including participation in the Horizons Programme – a specialist intervention designed for men with sexual convictions.
Additionally, Abbott is subject to a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which imposes restrictions aimed at protecting the public.
He is also under a five-year restraining order and must adhere to sex offender registration requirements, ensuring ongoing legal monitoring of his conduct.
The case underscores the continuing efforts within the legal system to address and manage sexual offences involving minors, emphasizing both punishment and rehabilitation for offenders like Callum Abbott.
