BLACKBURN SEX OFFENDER WHO HARASSED FORMER PARTNER JAILED
A sex offender named Cailan Hackett, aged 27, has been sentenced for breaching a suspended sentence order and harassing his former partner on multiple occasions.Hackett was initially given a 15-month imprisonment sentence, suspended for 10 months, in April of the previous year.
Despite this, he committed further offences, leading to a new sentence at Burnley Crown Court.
The court heard that Hackett ended his on-off relationship with his former partner on September 2.
Later that day, they encountered each other near Lidl in St Mary’s Close, Blackburn.
During the walk, she accidentally touched Hackett’s heel, after which he threatened to push her into the road before walking away.
He then called her, demanding she bring back a jacket he had left at her house.
When she arrived home, Hackett was there, and he threw tablets at her window, calling her derogatory names such as ‘slag’ and ‘scruff,’ while threatening violence.
The following day, they met briefly, and Hackett threatened to destroy her windows.
On September 13 at around 8:40 pm, Hackett appeared at her bedroom door brandishing a knife and threatening to use it.
She told him to leave, and he put the knife away.
Hackett then made further threats, claiming she owed him money and saying he would ‘get her battered’ and have people break into her home.
After Hackett left, the victim noticed items had been stolen from her – including an Amazon Fire Stick, Roku TV box, and Amazon Alexa.
She reported feeling anxious and living in fear since the incidents.
Hackett was also found to have failed to update his address with police after previously being placed on the sex offenders register following convictions for sexual activity with a child under 16 and sexual communication with a child, which will last until 2033.
Additionally, Hackett assaulted his former partner’s brother, causing a chipped tooth, and failed to attend court hearings related to other offences, including criminal damage and failure to surrender.
He also caused damage to property and behaved aggressively in custody, kicking officers and damaging a book.
Hackett has a criminal record with 18 convictions for 40 offences, including seven sex offences.
Judge Sara Dodd sentenced him to two years in prison, citing his low compliance and repetitive reoffending as reasons for activation of his sentences.
