PLYMOUTH MAN BURHAN ABDULRAHMAN SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN PLYMOUTH
In a case that has shocked the community of Plymouth, Burhan Abdulrahman, a 34-year-old man residing on Mount Gould Road, was convicted of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in a shared residence within the city. The incident, which took place between February and May of 2013, led to a lengthy legal process culminating in Abdulrahman’s sentencing at Plymouth Crown Court.
During the trial, the young victim testified via video link, recounting that Abdulrahman had indecently touched her while they sat together on a sofa inside the house.
She explained that she was visiting a family friend—who was also acquainted with Abdulrahman—when the incident occurred.
Despite her protests and telling Abdulrahman to stop, he continued his inappropriate conduct.
The girl further stated that she eventually confided in the family friend, who responded by removing Abdulrahman, also known by the nickname “Biggy,” from the premises.
It was revealed that the girl did not report the incident to the police until several weeks later.
The court also heard from another girl present at the time, who observed Abdulrahman touching the complainant’s thigh during the same encounter.
The prosecution, led by Kelly Scrivener from the Crown Prosecution Service, highlighted Abdulrahman’s reaction when he was arrested, noting that he angrily declared in front of the custody sergeant, “I will rape her next time.” Abdulrahman initially denied the allegations, claiming he was merely present in the room but did not engage in any inappropriate touching.
Although he had previous encounters with law enforcement, he had no prior convictions related to sexual offenses.
The court found him guilty of indecent assault, and in November 2014, he was convicted by a jury of the charges.
Following the conviction, the case was adjourned for a probation report, but further delays occurred due to a procedural mix-up concerning the sentencing venue.
Ultimately, the judge, Advocate General Alan Large, sentenced Abdulrahman to five months in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to sign the Sex Offender Register for a period of seven years and to pay a victim surcharge of £70.
The judge also emphasized the importance of monitoring Abdulrahman’s risk level before finalizing the sentence.
In a related hearing, Abdulrahman’s conduct and reaction to his arrest were discussed, with the court noting his previous police troubles but no prior sexual convictions.
The judge indicated that Abdulrahman might face imprisonment but would consider alternatives based on the assessed risk.
Abdulrahman was released on bail pending further evaluations, with the court making it clear that the final decision on his custodial sentence would depend on the findings of the probation report and risk assessment.
