BRIAN WORTHY SHOCKS HOPE VALLEY AND NOTTINGHAM WITH SEX OFFENCES AND EXPOSED GENITALS

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the Hope Valley community and beyond, Brian Worthy, a 65-year-old man from Brentwood Road, Bamford, was recently involved in a series of disturbing sexual offences that culminated in his appearance at Nottingham Crown Court. Despite the gravity of his actions, Worthy was allowed to walk free from the court after sentencing, raising concerns about the justice process and the protection of vulnerable individuals.

Worthy’s criminal activities came to light during proceedings at Chesterfield magistrates’ court on Monday, August 12. It was there that he admitted to a series of serious offences, which included exposing his genitals to a woman in Bamford’s local park and engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct involving two young girls. The court heard that these incidents occurred over a relatively short period, highlighting a pattern of troubling behavior.

During the hearing, District Judge Andrew Davison described the facts as “shocking and distressing,” emphasizing the disturbing nature of the offences. He pointed out that the incidents had taken place within a brief timeframe, which added to the concern about the potential risk posed by Worthy.

Worthy, who has a background working in the pub trade, pleaded guilty to multiple charges. These included causing or inciting a girl under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity between June 1 and June 5, and again on July 17, involving a different girl. Additionally, he admitted to intentionally exposing his genitals to a woman in Bamford’s park on July 2, an act that caused alarm and distress to the victim.

During the magistrates’ court hearing, Worthy’s defence solicitor, Steve Brint, argued that his client’s behaviour was unusual and needed to be addressed promptly to prevent further issues. He expressed concern that Worthy would struggle to cope within the prison environment, suggesting that his actions did not involve penetration or any physical contact with the victims.

Following the proceedings, Worthy was sentenced to a three-year community order, which includes supervision to monitor his conduct and ensure he receives appropriate support. Furthermore, he was placed under a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which restricts his activities and places him on the sex offenders’ register, aiming to protect the community from any future harm.

Despite the severity of the offences and the court’s recognition of their disturbing nature, the fact that Worthy was allowed to walk free after sentencing has sparked debate and concern among local residents and advocacy groups. The case underscores ongoing issues related to justice for victims of sexual offences and the measures in place to prevent reoffending.
