BRIAN WALTERS AND HIS SHOCKING CRIMES IN HULL

A disturbingly brazen sexual predator, Brian Walters, exploited the vulnerability of a woman in Hull, taking advantage of her after a night of heavy drinking.

The incident, which took place on September 8, 2018, was detailed during his trial at Hull Crown Court, revealing the stark reality of the assault and its aftermath.

According to court proceedings, Walters, 67, who has been a resident of Valentine Close and Anlaby Park Road South in Hull, denied allegations of rape and two counts of indecent assault.

Despite his denials, a jury convicted him following a comprehensive trial that uncovered the disturbing nature of his actions.

The prosecution, led by David Hall, described how both Walters and the victim had consumed alcohol on the night of the incident.

The woman testified that she had been drinking cans of Fosters lager with Walters, admitting, “I had a lot to drink.

I was out of it.

I was drinking cans of Fosters lager.

We went through nearly 30 cans between us.

I could hardly stand up.” Her intoxication played a significant role in her memory gaps about the events that unfolded.

The victim recounted that during their time together, Walters made a crude remark: “I have not sh****d a woman in ages.” She responded with a joke, saying, “I haven’t either,” to which Walters replied, “I can help you out with that.” Moments later, she found herself in a state of undress, uncertain how she had ended up that way.

“I can’t remember how I came to be naked but I was fully naked,” she explained.

Her recollection was hazy because she was so intoxicated—she simply remembered feeling very drunk.

Walters then bizarrely suggested, “Come tomorrow and we will try again,” a comment that the woman later described as unwanted and non-consensual.

She expressed her feelings clearly: “I did not want sex with [him].” After the assault, she confided in a support officer about what had happened, showing signs of distress and emotional upset at the time.

The police case was brought forward in September 2021, leading to his arrest and subsequent trial.

During the court hearing, the case was further complicated by Walters’ own history.

Court records revealed that he had previously served time for burglary in 1979.

Throughout his defense, Walters, who was born in Hull, consistently denied any sexual activity with the woman.

“That’s wrong,” he insisted.

“I never did.

I’m quite sure.” When questioned about the rape allegations, Walters maintained, “There is no truth in it.

No, I never.” When asked if he was lying, he simply answered, “No,” and suggested he had no idea why the woman would make such accusations.

He admitted he had been drinking that evening but tried to minimize the amount, claiming, “I had some beer.

Fosters.

I don’t count them.

I just drink them.” He denied that they had consumed nearly 30 cans between them, asserting instead that the number was far lower.

Regarding the circumstances leading to the incident, Walters stated, “There was no decision between us about sex.

She wanted me to do it.

I said ‘No’ and just left her to her own devices.” His assertions did little to sway the court’s understanding of the gravity of his actions.

Throughout the proceedings, Walters was on bail but had been remanded in custody after being convicted.

His defense lawyer, Charlotte Baines, highlighted his struggles with imprisonment, noting, “He is struggling to cope.

There is no suggestion that there has been wider offending here.” The judge, Mark Bury, addressed Walters directly during sentencing, emphasizing the seriousness of the assault.

He stated, “She woke to find you on top of her, having sex with her.

She told you ‘No’.

That didn't stop you.

She couldn't push you off.

You had your full weight on her.

She was drunk.

You had plied her with drink to the point where she was incapable of looking after herself.

She felt disgusted and ashamed.” The judge condemned Walters’ blatant denial and the cruelty of his actions.

As a result, Brian Walters was sentenced to ten years in prison.

Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring oversight for his future years.

This case highlights the tragic consequences of exploiting vulnerability and underscores the importance of justice for victims subjected to sexual violence in Hull.
