HOLME-ON-THE-WOLDS MAN SENTENCING FOR ONLINE CHILD SEXUAL COMMUNICATIONS
A sex offender named Brian Walker, aged 68, of East Street, Holme-on-the-Wolds, was brought to court after attempting to exchange highly sexualised online messages with what he believed was a 13-year-old girl.He engaged in this conduct between April 9 and 15, 2022, after which the police were informed.
Walker sent indecent images of himself and requested the decoy to send him inappropriate pictures, including images of underwear.
He also conducted internet searches indicating an interest in children, which raised suspicions.
This case was prosecuted at Hull Crown Court.
Judge Alexander Menary stated that Walker mistakenly thought he was communicating with a minor, and the interactions quickly escalated into sexualised conversations.
He pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, and it was revealed that he believed the girl was 13.
Walker had no previous convictions and expressed remorse during his interview with the probation service.
As part of the sentence, he received 30 days' rehabilitation, was ordered to pay £150 costs, and was subject to a five-year sexual harm prevention order.
He is also required to register as a sex offender for five years.
The judge emphasized that rehabilitation was the best approach for public safety, warning Walker that failure to engage with the rehabilitation process or committing further offences could lead to imprisonment.
The case highlighted the importance of monitoring individuals with such interests to protect potential victims.
