SALE MAN BRIAN PORRITT SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORN AND EXTREME MATERIALS IN SALE

In a serious case that has shocked the community of Sale, a local man named Brian Porritt has been formally sentenced after admitting to possessing illegal and highly disturbing material, including child pornography and extreme pornography, alongside illegal drugs. The incident unfolded at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, where Porritt, aged 58 and formerly residing on Britannia Road, faced justice for his actions.

Porritt, who previously worked as a teacher at Burnage High School, pleaded guilty to multiple charges during an earlier hearing. These charges included four counts of possessing indecent images of children, possession of extreme pornographic content, and possession of cocaine. His arrest and subsequent investigation were linked to efforts by police to dismantle a broader international paedophile network centered around Gareth Hulme, a convicted paedophile who received an indeterminate sentence for public protection (IPP) in June for 24 offences, including the rape of a 10-year-old boy and sexual activity with a 15-year-old boy.

The police investigation into Hulme uncovered internet chat logs between Hulme and Porritt, revealing discussions about sexual activities involving children. This evidence prompted authorities to search Porritt’s residence in Sale, where they discovered a troubling collection of illicit materials. Among the items found were DVDs containing extreme pornographic content, 242 indecent images of children stored on his computer, and cocaine. Despite the discovery, Porritt claimed during police interviews that he had never knowingly downloaded child pornography, a statement that investigators continue to scrutinize.

Detective Constable Jordan McGowan, part of Greater Manchester Police’s Operation Impact team, emphasized the gravity of the case. He stated, “Porritt might not have physically harmed anyone himself but he was perpetuating the suffering of victims of sexual abuse by indulging others who did and possessing material distributed by such offenders. Greater Manchester Police will act on any information, no matter how difficult it is to trace someone, because every child in those images is a victim of a terrible crime and all those involved deserve to be brought before the courts.”

As part of his sentencing, Porritt was ordered to attend a sex offenders’ treatment programme, sign the sex offenders’ register for five years, and was given an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO). Additionally, he received a three-year community order, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to prevent further harm.
