BRIAN NURDON FROM NEWPORT SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD SEX CRIMES IN GWENT
In a case that has shocked the community of Newport and the wider Gwent area, Brian Nurdon, a 67-year-old man, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of committing heinous sexual offenses against children during the 1980s.The investigation into Nurdon’s crimes was sparked when one of his victims, brave enough to come forward, reported a rape claim in 2016 that dated back more than three decades.
This disclosure prompted authorities to reopen the case and conduct a thorough investigation, which subsequently led to the identification of additional victims.
As the police delved deeper into the allegations, more individuals came forward, revealing that they had been sexually assaulted or raped by Nurdon during the period in question.
The courage of these victims was highly praised by Gwent Police, who acknowledged their bravery in providing evidence that was crucial to the case.
Following a detailed trial, Nurdon was convicted on two counts of rape and four charges of indecent assault.
However, he was acquitted of ten other rape allegations, three additional indecent assaults, and four counts of indecency with a child.
The court’s decision reflected the evidence presented and the complexities of the case.
His conviction was finalized on September 20, 2017, but a retrial was necessary after the jury failed to reach a verdict on some of the remaining charges.
The retrial took place on March 14 of this year at Cardiff Crown Court.
During sentencing, Judge Michael Fitton, QC, ordered Nurdon to serve 12 years in prison for the rape convictions, with these sentences to run concurrently.
Additionally, he was sentenced to 18 months for each of the indecent assault charges, to be served consecutively.
The combined sentence underscores the severity of the crimes committed and the impact on the victims involved.
