MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND RAPE
A man has received a prison sentence after being found guilty of sexual assault, according to Cumbria Police.Brian Light, aged 36 and from Carlisle, was convicted of the crime in July.
In addition to the rape charge, he pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm and criminal damage during a court hearing at Carlisle's crown court.
He was sentenced to nine years in prison with authorities acknowledging the victim’s demonstration of "courage and strength".
Light was also placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely and is prohibited from working with children and vulnerable adults throughout his life.
A spokesperson from Cumbria Police urged victims of sexual offences to come forward, stating: "If you are a victim of sexual offences don't suffer in silence."
