April 2019 Pervert caught by paedophile hunting team A pervert has avoided a prison sentence after he groomed what he believed was a child online Brian Laing of Leven, Fife appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court where he admitted several child sexual offences including: Sexual communication with a child Arranging to meet a child following sexual grooming The court was told that Laing had contacted the online profile of someone he believed was a child Laing sent highly sexualised messages and images in a clear bid to groom the child for sexual activity However, the child did not exist and was instead an adult member of paedophile hunting team ‘Child Protectors Scotland’ who pose online as children to catch sexual predators who target kids In December 2018, the team identified, and then confronted Laing and questioned him on his internet activity. A member of the team rang the police and Laing was arrested at the scene. The Sheriff handed Laing a community pay back order with a 12 month supervision order attached Laing was placed on the sex offenders register for a period of 12 months Several restrictions were also put in place: No contact with children under 16 years of age Cannot delete his computer or phone internet history
