BRIAN FOX FROM MIRFIELD SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND ONLINE SEXUAL EXPLOITATION IN PHILIPPINES

In August 2014, a disturbing case involving a pensioner from Mirfield, identified as Brian Fox, culminated in a significant legal judgment after he was found guilty of engaging in heinous online activities related to child exploitation. Fox, aged 69 and residing on Crossley Lane in Mirfield, was sentenced to three years and four months in prison following his conviction for multiple serious offences involving indecent images and the solicitation of child sexual acts over the internet.

Authorities uncovered Fox’s illicit activities during a police raid at his residence on August 31, 2012. When officers executed a search warrant, they seized his computer equipment, which subsequently revealed a disturbing collection of indecent images of children. The investigation did not stop there; further examination of digital records uncovered a series of chat logs that provided a chilling insight into Fox’s online interactions.

Prosecutor Philip Adams presented evidence to Leeds Crown Court indicating that Fox had engaged in conversations with a youth in the Philippines. These exchanges detailed Fox’s willingness to pay for live sexual performances involving children. The chat logs revealed that the youth, who claimed to be around 13 years old, discussed with Fox how much he would pay for a live sex show. The youth also mentioned having a friend with him, and Fox transferred £20 to them, instructing the boys to undress and perform sexual acts, including oral sex and even involving one boy with another.

Further messages showed Fox’s apparent satisfaction with the acts, with him describing the show as “great” after viewing it. The logs also indicated that Fox was told if he contacted the boys again the following day, there would be three children involved, including one as young as 11. Records confirmed that Fox had been in contact with other individuals, discussing the payment for live sex shows involving minors.

Analysis of his computer revealed a total of 47 indecent images of children, with 34 classified at the lowest level of severity, along with five movies at level one and two at level two. These findings underscored the gravity of his offences. Fox’s legal representative, Simon Batiste, argued that the offences occurred some time ago, and that Fox had since sought help for his issues. Batiste also highlighted Fox’s health problems, including multiple heart attacks and an impending heart bypass operation, which he claimed would make incarceration particularly difficult for him.

Despite these pleas, Judge Neil Clark dismissed the request for a suspended sentence. Fox was formally convicted of five counts of making indecent photographs of children and one count of causing child pornography to be produced. As part of his sentence, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for life. The judge emphasized the severity of the crimes, noting that the children depicted in the images and videos had suffered both physical and emotional harm, especially upon discovering their images were being circulated.

Most notably, the judge condemned Fox’s role in directing children in the Philippines to participate in pornography and perform sexual acts, explicitly stating, “You were paying directly for a child being abused in a foreign country.” The case drew a strong statement from West Yorkshire Police, with DC Pam Gillings affirming that the sentence reflected the seriousness of the offences and underscored the commitment to uncovering and prosecuting those involved in the sexual exploitation of children, both locally and internationally.
