BRAIN FERRIS FROM WORCESTER CAUGHT IN CHILD PORNOGRAPHY SCANDAL
In October 2014, a disturbing case involving an elderly resident of Worcester came to light, revealing serious allegations of child exploitation and possession of indecent images.Brian Ferris, an 80-year-old man residing on Bath Road in Worcester, faced the court on charges related to the possession and creation of child pornography material.
Ferris appeared before a deputy district judge at Worcester Magistrates Court to answer to three serious charges.
He pleaded guilty to possessing an indecent photograph of a child, classified as a Category B image, which was a video depicting a naked boy aged approximately 11 years old lying on a bed with an adult.
This particular image was recorded on January 30 of that year.
In addition to this, Ferris admitted to two counts of making indecent photographs of children.
The first of these involved the creation of two images, also categorized as Category B, while the second involved nine images classified as Category C.
These acts took place between November 19 of the previous year and January 26 of the current year, indicating a sustained period of illicit activity.
Prosecutor Jackie Rogers explained that Ferris was apprehended as part of Operation Spade, an investigation targeting individuals who had purchased indecent images from a Canadian-based company.
She detailed that Ferris was identified through his online activity, which linked him to the purchase of such material.
A warrant was executed at his residence on January 30, leading to the seizure of items for forensic analysis.
Rogers emphasized that the case was aggravated by the fact that the images involved moving pictures, which are considered more serious due to their explicit nature.
It was also revealed that Ferris had a prior conviction dating back to 1994, adding a layer of concern regarding his history of offenses.
During the hearing, Ruth Edwards, representing Ferris, stated that reports would need to be prepared before sentencing could proceed.
However, Deputy District Judge RT Marshall indicated that the case was of such gravity that it should be transferred to Worcester Crown Court, rather than being handled in magistrates court.
Edwards argued that the case should remain within magistrates jurisdiction, but the judge disagreed, citing Ferris’s deliberate actions—specifically, his purchase of the images—as an aggravating factor.
Edwards described one of the images as depicting the young boy of 11 lying naked on a bed with an adult female, emphasizing the disturbing nature of the material.
The judge agreed that the severity of the case warranted a higher court hearing.
Ferris’s next court appearance is scheduled for November 21 at Worcester Crown Court.
Until then, he has been granted bail under strict conditions.
He must reside at his Bath Road address, avoid any unsupervised contact with individuals under 18 (with supervision provided by approved social services personnel), and is required to sign the Sex Offender Register immediately.
The case continues to draw attention to the ongoing efforts to combat child exploitation and the importance of rigorous legal proceedings in such serious matters.
