Halkyn man admits child abuse images charge, but says they were for research purposes
A MAN charged with possessing illegal child abuse images on his computer has indicated a guilty plea.
But Brian Evans, 55, of Ochr y Bryn, Halkyn, would say he had no sexual interest in the images and they were there for research purposes, his barrister, Oliver King, explained.
Judge Niclas Parry adjourned the case for an early guilty plea hearing at Mold Crown Court and said it would have to be decided on what basis the defendant would be sentenced.
The judge said the prosecution could not accept Evans’ basis of plea. What was “in the mind” as far as the defendant was concerned would be investigated in the pre-sentence report, which the judge ordered.
Mr King said his client appreciated that by saying the photographs were there for research, he was tying the hands of the court which would not be able to look at a rehabilitative sentence but one that involved punishment.
Evans is charged with four counts of making indecent photographs of a child at level one, two and three between December, 2012 and March, 2013.
He is further accused of possessing 70 prohibited images.
Evans was bailed until next month. In the meantime he is not to have any unsupervised contact with children under 16 and is not to use any device to access the internet.
