BRIAN CAIRNS AND THE HORRIFIC CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE RING IN NEWCASTLE AND THE PHILIPPINES
In a disturbing case revealed at Newcastle Crown Court, Brian Cairns, a 60-year-old resident of Pendle Close, Washington, was found guilty of heinous crimes involving the exploitation and torture of very young children.Cairns orchestrated and paid for the live sexual abuse of girls as young as four years old, with the horrific footage being viewed remotely by him during these sickening acts.
The investigation uncovered that Cairns had transferred substantial sums of money via online transfers to individuals identified as facilitators based in the Philippines.
These facilitators were responsible for carrying out the abuse, which Cairns watched and ordered through online communications.
Court documents indicated that Cairns maintained screenshots of his orders, describing the abuse in detail, comparable to a menu of depraved requests.
During proceedings, the prosecution revealed that Cairns asked for a break during one of the live broadcasts to step away and smoke cigarettes while the child abuse continued unchecked.
Prosecutor Paul Cleasby explained that officers from Northumbria Police Paedophile Investigation Team seized Cairns' computer devices after receiving credible intelligence that he was sending large sums of money overseas in exchange for disturbing child abuse images.
A thorough analysis of Cairns’ digital devices uncovered a series of chat logs and communication transcripts that made it painfully clear Cairns was directly involved in financing the live exploitation of children.
The messages confirmed that he paid to have children under the age of eight sexually abused online, with specific requests for acts involving degrading violence.
Among the victims, one was just four years old, while the others ranged between six and eight years old.
Cairns pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including two counts of inciting the sexual exploitation of a child and two counts of making indecent photographs of a child.
The court heard how he specifically ordered the abuse to focus on extremely young children, ensuring that their age was no more than eight years old—describing their suffering as not only abuse but torture in the most vicious terms.
Judge Amanda Rippon sentenced Cairns to 13 years in prison, coupled with an extended one-year licence period.
In her remarks, she highlighted the depravity of his crimes, describing them as some of the most horrific she had encountered within the criminal justice system related to child abuse.
The judge emphasized the gravity of Cairns' actions, stating, “You ordered, almost off a menu, for children who you did not want to be older than eight, to me not just abused but tortured - and they were.” She condemned the fact that Cairns paused in his viewing to go and fetch cigarettes, while the children continued to endure unspeakable acts.
The court condemned his direct role in directing and facilitating this child abuse, underscoring the young victims’ vulnerability and the extremely grave nature of his offenses.
