BRETT WOODS CAUGHT IN SEXUAL ACT WITH SCHOOLGIRL ON SOUTH SHIELDS SEAFRONT NEAR NEWCASTLE
In a disturbing incident that unfolded along the scenic seafront in South Shields, a teenage man was found engaging in a sexual act with a 14-year-old girl, prompting immediate police intervention. The incident was reported by a concerned member of the public who observed the young girl appearing distressed on Sea Road, a well-known location in South Tyneside.Responding swiftly to the call, officers arrived at the scene to find Brett Woods, an 18-year-old resident of Wingrove Avenue in Newcastle, in close proximity to the girl. The police observed that her skirt was lifted above her waist, indicating a possible sexual encounter. Woods was promptly arrested on suspicion of sexual touching of a minor under the age of 16.
Woods appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court to face charges, where he pleaded guilty to the allegations. Prosecutor Stan Sudworth provided details of the case, explaining that the incident took place on a wall near the Dunes amusement arcade, a popular spot along the South Shields seafront. The girl reportedly confided that she had skipped school due to bullying and that Woods was offering her support during this difficult time.
When questioned by the police, Woods initially denied any sexual activity had occurred. However, after further questioning, he admitted to engaging in a flirtatious and sexual encounter with the girl. He revealed that they had been communicating via Facebook and had spent time together, knowing her age but choosing to meet nonetheless. Woods stated that their meeting in South Shields became flirtatious and eventually led to a sexual act, which he acknowledged was non-consensual due to her age.
During the court proceedings, Woods’ defense lawyer, Barry Row, acknowledged that Woods should not have involved himself with a girl of such a young age. He explained that the two had been in a relationship for some time, describing it as a boyfriend-girlfriend situation. Row emphasized that Woods had initially refused to speak to police but later reflected on his actions and returned to provide a statement, expressing remorse. He also mentioned that Woods is currently dating someone closer to his age and aspires to join the army, but his future plans are now contingent upon the outcome of this case.
The magistrates decided to adjourn the case until November 28, allowing the probation service to prepare a comprehensive report on Woods’ background and circumstances. The case remains ongoing, with further legal proceedings anticipated in the coming weeks.
