BRETT JOHNSON FROM PEMBROKE DOCK ADMITS TO DOWNLOADING OVER 6,500 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In a serious case heard at Haverfordwest magistrates court, Brett Johnson, a resident of Pembroke Dock, faced charges related to the possession of a significant number of indecent images of children.Johnson, aged 46 and residing on Finch Close, pleaded guilty to two separate charges concerning the illegal download of such material.
The court proceedings revealed that Johnson had downloaded an indecent photograph of a child at some point between March 30, 2009, and June 28, 2018.
In addition, he admitted to acquiring a staggering total of 6,570 indecent images of children within a broader timeframe spanning from June 30, 2005, to June 28, 2018.
These dates suggest a prolonged period during which Johnson was engaged in this illegal activity, raising concerns about the extent of his actions over the years.
Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones explained that among the images downloaded by Johnson, one was classified as a more serious Category B photograph, indicating a higher level of severity.
The remaining images fell into Category C, which, while still illegal and concerning, are considered less severe in comparison.
The court was informed that Johnson fully admitted during police interviews that he had downloaded these images, providing a clear acknowledgment of his involvement.
Defense attorney Mark Layton emphasized that there was no evidence suggesting Johnson was involved in the production or distribution of these images.
He also highlighted Johnson’s previously clean character, implying that this incident was out of character and possibly a one-time lapse.
The magistrates noted that the extensive date range of the downloads was related to the period during which Johnson owned the computer used for these activities.
It was explained that pinpointing exact download dates was challenging, given the long span of time involved.
After considering the case, the magistrates accepted jurisdiction and decided to adjourn sentencing.
They ordered a probation report to be prepared before any final decision on the case.
Johnson was released on unconditional bail and is scheduled to return for his next hearing on September 16, where further proceedings will determine the appropriate sentence for his actions.
