SHEFFIELD MAN JAILED FOR CONTROLLING AND VIOLENT ABUSE OF EX-GIRLFRIEND
A jealous and controlling ex-boyfriend who physically assaulted, stalked, and threatened his former partner has been sentenced.Brandon Worthington, from Sheffield, began a relationship with his partner when he was just 12 years old and the relationship resulted in a pattern of abusive behavior.
According to Sheffield Crown Court, Worthington, now 20, would repeatedly appear wherever his ex-girlfriend was, causing her to leave meals and isolate herself from friends and family.
Prosecutor Rosemary Kavanagh described how Worthington would send her family troubling messages, look through her phone, track her location, and even falsely claim she was infected with HIV.
The court heard that their relationship began around 2013, with controlling behavior starting two years later.
Worthington physically assaulted his partner on multiple occasions, including punching her causing black eyes and strangling her to the point of unable to breathe.
Despite the breakup in spring 2018, Worthington was unable to accept it and continued to harass her by posting pictures on social media implying they were still together and restricting her movements.
He also made threats against her relatives, including her grandmother who was terminally ill.
In addition to the domestic abuse charges, Worthington admitted to burglary and theft, stating he was involved in burglaries in South Yorkshire and stealing vehicles and possessions.
The court sentenced him to four years in prison and imposed a restraining order banning contact with his ex for 10 years.
