BRANDON WILLIAMSON FROM TAYSIDE SENTENCED FOR THREATENING LETTERS AND TAUNTING VICTIMS

In January 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Brandon Williamson, a sex offender from Tayside, who caused significant distress to his young victims and their families through malicious correspondence while behind bars. The case was brought before Dundee Sheriff Court, revealing the extent of Williamson's malicious actions and the ongoing threat he posed even after serving time.

Williamson, aged 20 at the time, had previously been sentenced to 31 months in December 2019 after admitting to engaging in sexual activities with underage girls in Perth and Inchture. His criminal record also included a conviction for sexual offenses involving minors, which led to his placement on the sex offenders register for a period of ten years. Despite his incarceration, Williamson's malicious behavior did not cease, as he began to send threatening and intimidating letters to his victims and their families shortly after his sentencing.

The most alarming incident occurred in March 2020, when Williamson sent a handwritten six-page letter from Polmont Young Offenders Institution to the mother of one of his victims. The letter, which was delivered to the family’s Perthshire home, left the mother and her 15-year-old daughter in a state of terror. The court was told that the mother was so distressed upon reading the letter that she began to cry uncontrollably, while her daughter felt physically sick from fear. The letter contained explicit gloating about the violence Williamson had previously inflicted on the girl, along with threats of further harm.

According to the prosecution, the letter included chilling statements such as, “I’ll get out and melt the face right off you. If she thinks I’ll leave her alone she’s wrong. I’m jumping all over her head every time I see her.” These words demonstrated Williamson’s blatant disregard for the safety and well-being of his victims and their families. The letter also revealed Williamson’s confidence that he would soon be released from prison, and he taunted the victims with threats of violence once he was free, indicating a significant risk of reoffending.

Stewart Duncan, the fiscal depute, explained to the court that the family had taken additional security measures at their Perthshire residence due to fears of Williamson’s potential return. The mother, whose identity is protected for legal reasons, reported Williamson’s threats to the police, prompting authorities to take the matter seriously. The court was also informed that Williamson was currently on the sex offenders register and was serving his sentence at the time of the letter’s mailing.

During the proceedings, defense solicitor Paul Ralph acknowledged that Williamson had completed his original sentence at the end of January 2021. However, he admitted that Williamson was responsible for causing fear and alarm through the letter sent on March 4, 2020. The court was told that Williamson’s actions represented a clear breach of the conditions of his release and posed a significant risk of reoffending.

Judge Alistair Carmichael, presiding over the case, expressed concern about Williamson’s dangerous behavior and the ongoing threat he posed to the victims and their families. As a result, the judge deferred sentencing to allow for the preparation of reports and ordered Williamson to remain in custody. Additionally, a non-harassment order was considered to prevent Williamson from contacting the victims or their family members for a period of five years, aiming to protect them from further intimidation or harm.

In summary, this case highlights the persistent danger posed by individuals like Brandon Williamson, who, despite serving time for serious offenses, continue to threaten and intimidate their victims from behind bars. The court’s actions reflect the seriousness with which such threats are taken, emphasizing the importance of protective measures for victims and the community at large.
