HULL MAN RECEIVES SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR STRANGULATION AND ASSAULT AFTER ALCOHOL-FUELED VIOLENT RAMPAGE
The individual responsible for the violent conduct is Brandon Sconis, a 26-year-old from Kingswood, Hull.According to court reports, Sconis was involved in a severe incident of violence following a night of heavy drinking.
He admitted to two offences of intentional strangulation—one for each victim—and two assaults that occurred on August 3.
Prosecutors stated that the victims included his girlfriend and her housemate.
The court heard that Sconis, described as a 'bad-tempered bully who was steeped in booze,' first attacked his girlfriend, then headbutted her housemate during an aggressive outburst where he caused both victims to struggle with breathing.
During the police interview, Sconis admitted he 'just flipped his head' after the housemate got involved and then started 'kicking off.' He was intoxicated at the time, which he said made him more irrational.
Sconis was found guilty and was given an 18-month suspended prison sentence, 300 hours of unpaid work, 20 days of rehabilitation, a four-month monitoring order, and a probation service Building Better Relationships programme.
Additionally, he received an indefinite restraining order.
Court records also detail that during the incident, he strangled his girlfriend for about 30 seconds, caused bruises by grabbing her wrist, arm, and hips, and pulled her hair and headbutted her.
He also punched and headbutted her housemate, causing bleeding and bruising, and restrained the housemate with a chokehold, further demonstrating his violence.
Sconis's alcohol influence was acknowledged as a factor that made him act irrationally.
The court emphasized the seriousness of his actions, with Recorder Sam Green KC stating, 'You don't go around strangling people without being punished,' and highlighted that Sconis’s behavior was disgraceful and entirely unacceptable.
