NOTTINGHAM PERVERT SPARED PRISON AFTER CHILD ABUSE FINDINGS
A Nottingham-based offender, Brandon Laird, has been found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses against minors but has been spared immediate imprisonment.According to court reports, Judge Steven Coupland told Laird that the best way to assist his rehabilitation and prevent further crimes is through professional intervention rather than immediate custody.
The 22-year-old from Sneinton had engaged in online conversations beginning in August 2020 with a 12-year-old girl, referring to her as 'beautiful' and saying he 'loved her,' while indicating intentions of sexual activity.
When police examined his phone, they discovered images depicting child abuse.
Additionally, Laird admitted to contacting other underage girls, exchanging sexual messages, and possessing indecent images of children.
One specific incident involved Laird collecting a 12-year-old girl from Hampshire, promising her 'way more than cuddles,' which implied sexual intent.
He also acknowledged that he found young children 'cute and beautiful.' Further, he had conversations with two 14-year-old girls, exchanging explicit photographs and messages.
The final reported offense involved a sexual assault where he touched a girl while they 'spooned' on a bed.
Laird pleaded guilty to charges of sexual assault of a child, sexual communication with three minors, and possession of indecent images.
In mitigation, his legal team argued he was bullied at school, had a lower mental age, and lacked a supportive peer group after losing contact with his father at age six.
As part of his sentence, Laird was handed a three-year community order with requirements to attend a 31-day sex offender treatment program, 35 rehabilitation sessions, and 100 hours of unpaid work.
A sexual harm prevention order was also issued, and he was ordered to register as a sex offender.
