BRANDON COLEMAN FROM CHATHAM SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR VIOLATING SEX OFFENDER ORDER IN KENT
A man convicted of serious sexual offenses and subsequently found to be in breach of his court-mandated restrictions has been sentenced to prison. Brandon Coleman, a resident of Burma Way in Chatham, was involved in a disturbing pattern of behavior that included persistent attempts to contact potential victims for illicit purposes.Despite being under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), Coleman engaged in activities that directly contravened the strict conditions imposed by the court. The order, issued after his conviction for producing indecent images of children in October 2021, was designed to prevent him from having any contact with minors and to regulate his use of electronic devices.
Specifically, the SHPO prohibited Coleman from communicating with juveniles unless certain conditions were met, and it forbade him from using any devices capable of internet access or storing digital images without prior notification to authorities. The order also mandated that any devices he possessed should be available for police inspection upon request. Additionally, Coleman was barred from using software that could delete internet history or erase messages, ensuring transparency and monitoring of his online activity.
However, concerns arose that Coleman was not adhering to these restrictions. An investigation was launched, which confirmed that he had indeed breached the terms of his order. On October 16, 2024, authorities arrested him. During a detailed examination of his mobile phone, investigators discovered that Coleman had downloaded Snapchat and was operating under multiple online aliases, further indicating his attempts to conceal his activities.
Following these findings, Coleman faced multiple charges, including making an indecent image, failing to comply with notification requirements for the sex offender register, and breaching the conditions of his SHPO on several occasions. He pleaded guilty to all charges.
His case was brought before Maidstone Crown Court, where, on April 8, Coleman was sentenced to two and a half years in prison. The sentence reflects the seriousness of his violations and the ongoing efforts to monitor and control individuals with a history of sexual offenses, especially those who continue to pose a risk to the community in Chatham and beyond.
