BRANDON BLOICE SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PERTH FOR PREMEDITATED SEXUAL ASSAULT AND ATTEMPTED MURDER
A convicted sex offender, Brandon Bloice, has been sentenced to a life imprisonment after searching online for phrases like "how to kill a woman" prior to stabbing a 23-year-old woman in the back.He intended to assault her sexually following the attack but fled the scene when she shouted for help.
The incident occurred on Carpenter Street, Perth, shortly after Bloice followed another woman who managed to escape.
At the age of 23, Bloice was issued an Order for Lifelong Restriction, requiring him to serve a minimum of four years in prison.
This order means he will only be released once authorities determine he no longer poses a threat to the public.
He previously admitted to an attempt to murder the woman with intent to rape, along with threats and abusive behavior towards another individual.
Judge Gillian Wade QC warned Bloice that he may never be released.
She described the attack as "abhorrent and pre-meditated" and highlighted the background of his established sexual offenses and strict monitoring that he failed to comply with.
She stated, "This was an abhorrent and pre-meditated assault.
These events occurred against a background of established sexual offending and stringent monitoring, but you failed to comply with the measures put in place to protect the public." During the hearing in Glasgow's High Court, the victim was walking to a nearby shop around 00:40 when she felt a sharp pain in her back.
Prosecutor Shanti Maguire recounted that she screamed, turned around, and saw Bloice facing her.
She repeatedly shouted for help and police assistance.
Bloice then ran towards Perth Concert Hall and was located in a city hostel the following day.
Investigators examined phones and a tablet found in his room.
Data analysis revealed Bloice had searched online using terms like "how to kill a woman stabbing" and "can a dead woman still get pregnant," indicating premeditation.
The prosecution stated that Bloice now accepted the assault was carried out with the intent to rape.
Defense lawyer Ronnie Renucci noted that background reports into Bloice were "somewhat depressing" and emphasized that his future engagement with authorities could determine any potential improvement.
In sentencing, Judge Wade emphasized the severity of Bloice's actions and his documented pattern of predatory behavior.
She detailed that he pleaded guilty to charges related to events on September 20 and 21, 2019, including attempted murder with intent to rape.
The judge described his actions as driven by deviant sexual interests, noting his prior sexual offenses and failure to adhere to supervision and monitoring measures.
A risk assessment indicated Bloice poses a high risk of reoffending, with diagnoses including severe psychopathy, personality disorders, and sexually sadistic fantasies.
The judge highlighted his highly duplicitous nature and difficulty managing his psychological profile.
After considering all factors, Judge Wade concluded that Bloice's release would pose a significant danger.
She imposed an Order for Lifelong Restriction, setting the minimum custody period at four years and six months—reduced to four years due to his guilty plea.
This order functions similarly to a life sentence, meaning he will remain in custody until a parole review is possible, which does not guarantee eventual release.
In addition, Bloice received a concurrent sentence of 20 months (reduced to 18 months) for the other charges, backdated to his initial court appearance on September 24, 2019.
He will also continue to comply with lifelong notification requirements as a sex offender and is barred from working with vulnerable groups, with his name added to the sex offender register.
