RAPIST GIVEN MORE JAIL TIME
2018.In a dramatic and startling turn of events at Worcester Crown Court, convicted sex offenders Bradley Tout and Kulin Odedra made headlines not only for their crimes but also for their daring escape from justice.
The incident unfolded on a Wednesday afternoon in October 2018, shortly after the court delivered its verdicts, sentencing Tout to 7½ years in prison in his absence and Odedra to 11½ years.
Tout, aged 20, was found guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl, a crime that had garnered significant attention and emotional reactions from the public gallery.
As the verdict was read, family members and supporters in the courtroom shouted protests, claiming Tout’s innocence.
Amidst the chaos, Tout suddenly made a break for freedom, leaping over the 3-foot-high dock where defendants are typically seated.
Witnesses described the frantic scene as Tout, in a desperate bid to escape, vaulted over the dock with a sudden, violent motion.
He caught his feet on the edge of the dock, causing him to stumble momentarily.
Despite this stumble, he quickly regained his footing and bolted out of the courtroom, ricocheting off walls as he sprinted through the corridors of Worcester Crown Court.
During his escape, Tout managed to dodge three prison officers and two barristers who attempted to apprehend him.
A security guard who intervened to stop him sustained minor injuries in the process.
The alarm system was triggered, and security personnel appeared visibly worried as they realized they had lost sight of the fleeing man.
Witnesses described the scene as high drama, with one noting, “With a sudden violent motion he vaulted over the dock wall, catching his feet on the edge, stumbling slightly as he ran away.
He regained his balance only to crash hard into a wall with his shoulder and then into another wall as he sprinted off.
The alarms were going off and the security guards looked very worried they’d lost him.
It was high drama.” Judge Nicolas Cartwright, presiding over the case, remarked to the jury, “Well, I’ve never seen anything like that happen before,” highlighting the extraordinary nature of the escape.
Following the incident, authorities launched a manhunt for Tout, who was now a fugitive.
His father, Matthew Tout, 38, publicly expressed his concern via Facebook, stating, “I don’t know where my son is but of course I want him to hand himself in.” Meanwhile, Kulin Odedra was apprehended and sentenced to 11½ years in prison for his role in the crime.
As the search for Tout continues, the community and legal authorities remain on high alert, emphasizing the seriousness of the crimes committed and the unprecedented attempt to evade justice in Worcester.
