NOTTINGHAM MAN JAILED FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ASSAULT
A survivor of domestic violence courageously confronted her abuser, Bradley Scoffield, at Nottingham Crown Court, sharing how his brutal assaults have 'changed her life for the worse'.Over an eight-month period, Scoffield, aged 20 and residing in Ruthwell Gardens, Bestwood, inflicted numerous injuries, including breaking his ex-girlfriend's nose, slashing her legs with keys, and threatening to kill her.
The court was told that Scoffield and his victim quickly began a relationship after meeting online in March 2022, which soon turned abusive and violent, according to prosecutor Anthony Cheung.
On December 2, 2022, following an argument about infidelity at a hotel, Scoffield violently attacked her, punching her in the face, head, and body, covering her mouth to suffocate her, and striking her legs with a toilet brush, resulting in a broken nose, lumps, bruising, and swelling.
During a second assault at their home on May 3 last year, he grabbed her jumper by the neck, making her struggle to breathe.
On July 31, Scoffield became jealous when she received texts from someone she knew, which led him to slash her with a key on her thigh, shin, and arm.
The victim only came forward about the abuse in February, and Scoffield was arrested in March.
In mitigation, Scoffield's lawyer stated that he was 'very sorry' for his actions and had long-standing diagnoses of ADHD and autism, which contributed to his behavior, though he accepted these are not excuses.
Judge Mark Watson described his actions as turning their relationship 'toxic' due to the abuse, causing the victim to suffer flashbacks and panic attacks, feeling unsafe even in her own mind.
Scoffield was sentenced to 30 months in prison and received an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim.
