PERTH YOB BLAIR STEWART SPITS BLOOD AND THREATENS POLICE IN VIOLENT OUTBURST

A violent incident unfolded at a block of flats on Strathtay Road in Perth, involving 20-year-old Blair Stewart, who engaged in a series of aggressive and threatening behaviors towards police officers. The confrontation escalated rapidly when officers responded to reports of a disturbance at a ground-floor property, only to be met with hostility from Stewart, who was found topless and visibly agitated.

According to court reports, Stewart's rage intensified when police arrived. He attempted to grab a broken shard of glass from the scene, displaying a reckless disregard for his own safety and that of the officers. During this confrontation, Stewart openly declared his intentions to stab the officers and expressed a disturbing indifference to the possibility of being jailed. His threatening demeanor was compounded by his refusal to cooperate with law enforcement.

Another individual present at the scene, William Lynas, 31, also contributed to the chaos by hurling an ashtray at one of the officers. The incident was severe enough to warrant police intervention and subsequent arrests. Both Stewart and Lynas appeared before Perth Sheriff Court to face charges related to their actions during the disturbance.

Sheriff George Way addressed the defendants directly, emphasizing the seriousness of their offenses. He warned them that such conduct could lead to lengthy custodial sentences, but in a decision to allow for further assessment, he chose to release them on bail while awaiting sentencing. The sheriff’s comments underscored the gravity of their behavior and the potential consequences they faced.

The incident, which took place on November 28, 2020, was detailed by fiscal depute Gavin Letford. Police officers responded to reports of a disturbance around 11:40 pm and located Stewart in the living room of Lynas’ flat. At the time, Stewart was unshirted, visibly distressed, and had cuts on his forehead and face. Lynas was also present, with similar facial injuries. Officers separated the two men for questioning and decided that Stewart should leave the premises to prevent further escalation.

However, Stewart became increasingly volatile when officers attempted to escort him out. He reached for a shard of glass from a window, prompting PC Leighton Davidson to intervene and prevent him from grabbing it. In response, Stewart lashed out, striking PC Davidson and violently resisting arrest by kicking and flailing. During the struggle, he made explicit threats to stab the officers and expressed a complete lack of concern about the consequences, including jail time.

Meanwhile, Lynas escalated the violence by throwing an ashtray at PC Claire Lowson, hitting her on the back and head. Stewart was restrained with leg cuffs as officers called for backup. Despite being advised to cease struggling due to his head injury, Stewart spat blood at a police officer and issued further threats of stabbing and rape. The officers eventually managed to remove Stewart from the flat and place him into a police vehicle outside. He was taken to Perth Royal Infirmary for a medical check but refused treatment.

Stewart, who resides on Nimmo Avenue in Perth, pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting police officers and to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner that could cause fear or alarm. Lynas admitted to attacking PC Lowson with the ashtray. The court deferred sentencing for background reports, with a new hearing scheduled for April 13 to determine appropriate penalties for their actions.
