ABBEY WOOD MAN BILLY MAGEE JAILED FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Billy Magee has been jailed after subjecting his former partner, Gemma Brummitt, to years of abusive, controlling, and frightening behaviour — including threatening her with a knife on Christmas Day.The 45-year-old, of Congress Road in Abbey Wood, appeared at Woolwich Crown Court on Monday (May 20), where he was sentenced after admitting stalking and engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour.
He also pleaded guilty to possessing small amounts of cocaine and cannabis.
The court was told Magee and Ms Brummitt had been in a relationship for four years.
During that time, he displayed violent and intimidating behaviour, with two particular incidents highlighted to the judge.
On Christmas Day 2021, during a gathering with friends and family, Magee argued with Ms Brummitt and brandished a kitchen knife.
He shouted at her and even threatened one of her friends, saying he would hold the blade to her throat if she didn’t keep quiet.
Then, on April 12, 2022, Magee grabbed Ms Brummitt by the throat and strangled her during another confrontation.
Although their relationship ended in March last year, the harassment continued.
Magee bombarded Ms Brummitt with phone calls and left threatening voice messages.
On August 25, he left a message saying he would kill her.
His mother also contacted Ms Brummitt around that time, saying: “I don’t know what to do.
He’s gone mad.
He thinks you cheated.
He’s coming to you.” On October 9, Magee turned up at her address and again became aggressive.
His barrister told the court that heavy drug use had taken a toll on his life during this period.
Sentencing him to two years and three months in prison, Judge Nicholas Heathcote Williams said Magee’s actions were serious and deeply distressing for his victim.
