BERNARD TOMS PLYMOUTH PAEDOPHILE SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of Plymouth, Bernard Toms, a 72-year-old resident of St George’s Terrace, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 15 years after he pleaded guilty to a series of heinous sexual offences committed over a span of more than three decades.
The Plymouth Crown Court heard that Toms was responsible for abusing five children, with the youngest victims being only six or seven years old at the time of the offences.
The court was presented with evidence that detailed a disturbing pattern of abuse, which included eight counts of indecent assault, six counts of indecency with a child, three counts of rape, and two counts of attempting to commit a serious offence.
Judge William Taylor, presiding over the case, expressed his condemnation of Toms’ actions, emphasizing the suffering inflicted upon the victims.
The judge noted that the victims had endured not only sexual violence but also bullying and violence, which compounded the trauma they experienced.
Earlier proceedings revealed that Toms had admitted to a total of 19 counts related to child sex offences, with an additional six counts remaining on file.
