April 2017 Durham man jailed for raping girl when he was 14 A man from Durham who raped a five-year-old-girl when he was 14 has been jailed for six years. Benjamin Robinson, 42, of Dixon Street, Consett, Durham, was sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court for sexual abuse he carried out when he was about 14 years old. His victim was around five at the time, the court heard. Robinson was found guilty one charge of rape and of four charges of of indecency with a child. Simon Rippon, prosecuting, told the court: “He threatened the victim with violence telling her no one would believe her and he would kill her if she did. “She has since suffered with self-harm, drugs and went through a period of consuming around nine litres of cider a day.” The court heard Robinson has a string of convictions, including burglary. Jailing Robinson, Judge David Fletcher, also ordered him to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and banned him from contact with anyone under the age of 16 for a 10-year-period unless accompanied by an adult. Judge Fletcher told him: “You took advantage of her at such a young age. “You have caused the victim a lifetime of psychological problems, physical damage and left her and her family in a very vulnerable situation.”
