BENJAMIN FISH SHOCKING SEX OFFENSES IN NORFOLK
A man named Benjamin Fish has been sentenced to a significant term in prison after being found guilty of grooming and sexually assaulting two young girls in Norfolk. The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about Fish’s actions and the lasting impact on his victims.
Fish, aged 38 and previously residing in North Norfolk, has been handed a custodial sentence of 12 years.
In addition to his prison term, he has been given an extended four-year licence period upon release, aimed at ensuring the ongoing protection of the public from any potential risks.
The court also mandated that Fish be placed on the sex offenders' register for life, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his potential future contact with children.
Furthermore, he is permanently banned from working with children in any capacity, a restriction that underscores the severity of his crimes and the threat his behavior posed.
Fish, whose current circumstances include no fixed address, admitted to charges of rape and sexual assault involving one of the victims, with the abuse beginning when she was only seven years old.
He also admitted to committing sexual assaults on a second girl.
Prosecutor Andrew Shaw outlined the severity of Fish’s offenses during the hearing at Norwich Crown Court, emphasizing that Fish had threatened one of the victims, telling her he would kill her if she disclosed what had happened.
Mr.
Shaw elaborated that Fish had systematically groomed one of the victims by lavishing her with expensive gifts, including bags and mobile phones, to manipulate and control her.
It was only as the victims grew older that they found the courage to speak out and report the abuse.
One of the victims provided a poignant impact statement, revealing that she still suffers from nightmares related to the abuse she endured.
Her testimony highlighted the long-lasting psychological scars left by Fish’s actions.
Justice Stephen Holt delivered the sentence, describing the offenses as deeply serious and impactful.
He imposed an extended sentence of 16 years, of which the primary custodial period is 12 years, followed by a four-year extension on licence to safeguard the community.
The judge publicly condemned Fish’s grooming behavior, pointing out that his manipulation through generous gifts was a key aspect of his criminal conduct.
Addressing Fish’s cooperation in the legal process, Judge Holt acknowledged his guilty pleas, noting that this spared the victims the ordeal of giving evidence in court.
The judge expressed that the sense of remorse and insight shown by Fish was taken into account when determining the sentence.
During the hearing, Fish’s legal representative, Michael Clare, argued that his client had not used violence and deserved credit for his guilty pleas.
Clare emphasized that Fish appeared genuinely remorseful and had an awareness of the harm caused, suggesting a potential for rehabilitation.
Nevertheless, the court’s decision underscores the gravity of the crimes committed and the importance of ongoing public protection measures.
