A resident of the Isle of Wight who was accused of stalking his former partner has received a lengthy restraining order but was not sentenced to immediate imprisonment.
The case of Benjamin Ash, who lives on Main Road in Porchfield, was heard by a judge at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Thursday, August 21.
In a previous hearing in July, the 30-year-old pleaded guilty to stalking that caused significant alarm or distress for the victim, with the offence taking place in Newport between June 1, 2024, and January 3.
Two additional charges, involving intentional strangulation and engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour, were not prosecuted at this stage and remain on file.
The court was told that Ash’s actions inflicted serious alarm or distress and negatively impacted his victim's daily life.
Ash was sentenced to 25 weeks in jail, but the sentence was suspended for 18 months and included 25 days of rehabilitation activities.
Additionally, he was ordered to adhere to a restraining order for five years.
