BEN KEELER FROM WINDSOR JAILED FOR HORRIFIC ANIMAL AND CHILD ABUSE VIDEOS
In December 2018, a disturbing case emerged involving Ben Keeler, a resident of Windsor, who was convicted and sentenced for possessing extremely disturbing and illegal material involving both animals and children. The case shed light on the extent of his criminal activities, which included the possession of videos depicting sexual acts involving a cow and a snake, as well as over 400 images of child sexual abuse.Keeler, aged 30, who had a history of previous convictions related to sexual offenses, was taken into custody after police uncovered the vile content on his devices. The investigation revealed that he was an active participant in a WhatsApp group, operating on a contraband phone, where such extreme pornography was shared among members. The phone was seized on March 31, 2017, while Keeler was residing at a bail hostel in Windsor, where he was serving an extended sentence for prior offenses, including possession of child abuse images and engaging in sexual activity with a minor.
Further examination of the seized device uncovered videos downloaded from a dark web sharing site, which depicted disturbing acts involving animals. Prosecutors and the presiding judge, His Honour Judge Paul Dugdale, expressed difficulty in fully comprehending the content of these videos based on police explanations. Prosecutor Amanda Hamilton detailed the evidence, stating, “This moving file shows a male adult with a cow performing [a sex act] on the animal.”
Additionally, Hamilton revealed that another video watched by Keeler while he was at the Windsor bail hostel in Straight Road, Old Windsor, depicted a man lying down with a snake on top of him, engaging in a sexual act with the serpent. The court was also informed that Keeler possessed images showing men abusing children as young as three months old. Disturbingly, he had distributed some of these images to a registered sex offender, further compounding the severity of his crimes.
Throughout the proceedings, Keeler sat with his arms crossed, dressed in a dark grey jumper and with short dark hair, showing little emotion. Judge Dugdale commented on his apparent lack of remorse, noting, “He doesn’t delete his history. You look at his phone, and it’s all there.” The court also heard that Keeler attempted to conceal a USB device containing additional images by hiding it inside a packet of washing powder.
In sentencing, Judge Dugdale emphasized the gravity of Keeler’s offenses, stating, “Whatever happened to you, you are a damaged young man and you find things in life difficult. You have a lot of previous convictions for sexual offending which date back to 2015 when you had a sentence for sexual activity with a child. Anyone who has a movie of a three-month-old baby is in possession of something quite horrific, and I am afraid that has to be marked with an appropriate sentence.”
As a result, Keeler was sentenced to eight months in prison to be served immediately. The judge also clarified that Keeler would continue serving an extended sentence until November 2022, reflecting the ongoing nature of his legal restrictions and the seriousness of his crimes.
